This year is the international year of plant health declared by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). The objective of this declaration and the corresponding events is to increase global awareness about the need and the impact of protecting plant health to address challenges of global importance such as to end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and boost economic development.
Protecting plants from pest and diseases is far more cost effective than dealing with full-blown plant health emergencies. Plant pest and diseases are often impossible to eradicate once they have established themselves and their management is time consuming and expensive. Prevention is critical to avoiding the devastating effect of pest and diseases on agriculture, livelihoods and food security and many of us have a role to play. Protecting plants is protecting life.
ABIOPEP, as a company expert on plant health, completely supports the FAO proposals in this sense, and dedicates its efforts towards the prevention and control of the damages caused by diseases induced by viruses in vegetable crops.
